Legal experts warn Meta’s new terms still grant broad scraping permissions, despite language changes

AnnouncementProductOct 17, 2026

Meta removed the word "train" from its upcoming business-account terms of service after Nieman Lab reported the terms would permit broad scraping of websites associated with those accounts. The revised terms, effective October 30 with no opt-out, restrict use of scraped content to "advertising and business products" but still permit broad scraping, according to legal experts. Matt Topic of Loevy & Loevy said publishers should remain concerned, noting "develop" is broad enough to include "train."
