Photon held a funeral for mobile apps. Now it has $4.5M to help replace them with agents

AnnouncementFundingOct 1, 2026

Photon, a startup helping developers build agents that operate over iMessage and WhatsApp, has raised $4.5 million in seed funding co-led by Gradient and A*, with participation from Vercel and others. The company says it has signed up over 40,000 developers, grown revenue 10x in four months, and reports less than 3% churn. Co-founder and CEO Daniel Tian said the funding will support product development as the company bets users will prefer agents over installing apps.
