Stripe has acquired OpenRouter, the neutral routing layer serving more than 10 million developers and over 10 trillion tokens per day. In a conversation with swyx and AMP's Anjney Midha, co-founder and CEO Alex Atallah traced OpenRouter's origins to the early Llama, Alpaca, Mistral, and Midjourney era, explained why it stayed focused on routing rather than fine-tuning or memory, and discussed model fusion experiments and why token fraud may become a defining security problem as autonomous agents attack token flows.
