Measuring how AI agents handle everyday wet-lab science

AnnouncementBenchmarkNov 4, 2026

OpenAI and Ligo introduced BioBasicsBench, a benchmark of 100 tasks measuring how well AI agents interpret raw wet-lab experimental data, identify errors, and recognize unsupported conclusions. Tasks were built from scientists' own experiments and reviewed by Ligo and external PhD-level scientists. At the 'xhigh' setting, GPT-6 Astra earned 66.7% of available credit, versus 43.8% for GPT-5.6 Sol. Results show progress in routine lab analysis, with weaknesses in interpreting images, checking controls, and applying experimental context.
