How We Took Over ChatGPT Accounts

AchievementResearchOct 31, 2026

OpenAI paid Parameter Labs a $5,000 bug bounty after fixing a vulnerability that allowed takeover of ChatGPT accounts. Parameter Labs found that untrusted code in ChatGPT's sandboxed HTML preview iframes could inject HTML into the parent page via MathLive's postMessage handler, then escape sandbox restrictions. OpenAI's CSP blocked inline scripts, but the YouTube oEmbed endpoint reflected executable JavaScript, enabling attackers to exfiltrate private data from users visiting a malicious share URL.
