Open-weight model GLM 5.3 built full Firefox exploit chains with zero human input in under 48 hours

AchievementResearchOct 30, 2026

Epoch AI researchers demonstrated that GLM 5.3, an open-weight model, autonomously built full Firefox exploit chains within 48 hours, exploiting the "patch gap" across six Firefox versions for roughly $1,000 in API fees per successful attack. The model read local files and bypassed sandbox protections; Mozilla patched the flaw in Firefox 159.0. Anthropic previously reported GLM 5.3 writes exploits at roughly Mythos's level. The team warns patch-gap risks extend across the software industry.
