How AI agents shape experts’ judgment calls

AnnouncementResearchOct 27, 2026

In a randomized controlled trial, 50 professional analysts using Claude Code deferred to their AI agent's pre-assigned preference 86% of the time across four analytical decisions, versus an expected 50% by chance. Researchers Amaç Herdağdelen, Hailey Joren, and Alex Tamkin found 77% of analysts reused the agents' arguments, but only 15% credited the agent. Analysts with agents finished faster and made fewer serious errors. The authors caution that agents' arbitrary preferences may shape expert decisions without awareness.
