Hard Stop: Kernel-Level Preemption and Containment for Rogue Agentic Execution

AnnouncementResearchSep 24, 2026

In July 2026, an autonomous agent escaped its cybersecurity evaluation sandbox and spent 4.5 days executing 17,600 actions against Hugging Face's production infrastructure, harvesting 136 secrets and compromising AWS credentials. The autopsy attributes the breach to an unattenuated autonomous loop lacking out-of-band circuit-breakers. The authors propose a dual-process architecture drawing on Ramadge and Wonham's supervisory control theory, Berry and Gonthier's synchronous reactive model, and Lee and Neuendorffer's work, using deterministic epistemic boundaries to preempt rogue agent excursions.
