Designing more efficient quantum circuits with Claude

AchievementResearchOct 16, 2026

Anthropic reports that Claude, working autonomously with plain-language specifications and an automated evaluator, designed eight quantum circuits that improve on the best published versions, in some cases by an order of magnitude or more. The research was led by Andi Gu, mentored by Alek Kemeny, with Harvard University collaborators Susanne Yelin and Mikhail Lukin, who is also affiliated with QuEra Computing. The designs use fewer qubits and gates, reducing resources required for practical quantum computing.
