Using thousands of AI agents to uncover new leads in biological data

AchievementResearchOct 19, 2026

OpenAI, PerturbAI, and Scripps Research deployed thousands of AI agents powered by GPT-Rosalind to analyze data from millions of mouse brain cells in 32 minutes, a task the team estimated would take humans months to a year. Using "distributed biological reasoning," agents examined a whole-brain CRISPR atlas, searched literature, and produced a reasoning atlas linking genes, cellular effects, and mechanisms. Their assessments aligned with blinded human experts, and they identified leads including a possible link between cholesterol regulation and neurodegeneration.
