TorchNeuron: running HF models on AWS Trainium is easier than ever

AnnouncementProductOct 19, 2026

AWS's TorchNeuron, a PyTorch plugin exposing Trainium as a native device, enters public beta on Oct. 20, 2026, installable via pip. Hugging Face says TorchNeuron supports 89% of the top 100 text-generation model architectures out of the box, up from 46% with Optimum Neuron v0.4.5. The plugin enables eager execution, torch.compile, and distributed APIs like FSDP, letting Transformers, Accelerate, PEFT, and TRL run on Trainium directly; Hugging Face now recommends these libraries over Optimum Neuron.
