Telephony and SIP

AnnouncementProductNov 6, 2026

OpenAI's GPT-Live now connects inbound and outbound phone calls through SIP trunks, with providers such as Twilio exchanging call audio while a backend handles session configuration and business logic. Inbound calls trigger a live.transport.incoming webhook that backends use to accept or reject via dedicated endpoints; outbound calls require creating a session with transport.type set to "sip". SIP signaling uses TLS, and GPT-Live requires SRTP for call audio.
