At TechCrunch Disrupt, Replit CEO Amjad Masad said the AI coding platform is no longer working with Anthropic, citing cost, partnership dynamics, and performance. He said internal and public benchmarks show Replit's Sol and Astra outperform alternatives for building applications from scratch, and that Replit's OpenAI partnership, announced in August, made it a better fit for now. The claim is contested: insiders familiar with the Anthropic relationship say it remains in place, and Replit's own website, blog posts, and social media show recent use of Anthropic models, including Claude Fable 5 and Claude Fable 5.1 in Replit Agent's production environment, plus an employee promoting Opus 5.5. The dispute matters because Replit built its platform on Anthropic's Claude models and credited that partnership with significant revenue growth. Masad also said enterprise now accounts for a much larger share of revenue than last year, and argued that deploying AI safely requires a well-orchestrated environment with error recovery, sandboxing, and identity controls.
