Redesigning source control at Anthropic

AnnouncementProductOct 13, 2026

Anthropic reports its merged code changes rose from roughly 2,500 per day in May 2026 to over 30,000 per day by September, prompting a custom replacement for Git called Scion. The system, built by a seven-person team, completed migration in five months; the main branch history is nearly 100 GB. Engineer Nick said offline support was skipped because Claude is Scion's heaviest user. The author speculates Fable/Mythos-class models drove the velocity increase.
