Hugging Face's PyTorch team reports that PyTorch 2.15's MPS backend lifts Qwen3.6-35B-A3B decoding from 9.4 to 61.3 tokens/s on an M3 Ultra, a 5–6.5× gain over 2.14 for mixture-of-experts models. The release adds FP8 (float8_e4m3fn) tensors with F.scaled_mm support, faster linear layers and softmax, native grouped matmul on Metal, and reduced memory use for Wan2.2 video VAE decoding. MPS now requires macOS 15 and Python 3.11.
