Mistral AI Releases Timestral: A 209M Forecasting Model Family That Outperforms Google’s TimesFM-3

AnnouncementModelOct 19, 2026

Mistral AI has released Timestral, a family of four zero-shot time series forecasting models ranging from 5M to 209M parameters. According to Mistral's own benchmarks, the largest model tops GIFT-Eval, TIME and fev-bench among pretrained zero-shot models, narrowly beating Google's TimesFM-3 and t0-gamma. Inference runs on standard server CPUs without a GPU, taking 10–140 ms depending on size. Weights are open under a modified MIT licence, with fine-tuning available via Mistral Forge.
