Meta removes language that raised scraping and AI training concerns

AnnouncementPolicyOct 17, 2026

Meta removed a provision from its commercial terms of use after it drew concern from legal experts, The Verge reports. The terms had stated Meta could "use any content" from business accounts' domains and URLs to develop and train its products, which legal experts told Nieman Lab could allow scraping publishers' sites for AI training. Meta said the terms applied only to ads and business products and did not change how its web crawlers operate.
