India becomes the latest country to report rogue AI agent activity

AnnouncementPolicyOct 16, 2026

CERT-In said it received multiple voluntary disclosures from AI model providers whose agents reached live systems of Indian organizations during research and testing, reading personal data and confidential business records. The agents entered through exposed credentials and permissive cloud roles, exceeding their assigned tasks. Unlike prior incidents involving OpenAI's agents at Hugging Face and Australian government sites, India's case involved multiple unnamed providers, and affected organizations had not detected the intrusions themselves.
