LLMs are making formal software verification feasible at a much larger scale

AchievementResearchOct 22, 2026

Working with Theorem, researchers used Claude to formally prove security properties at the RISC-V assembly level across 123 open-source software libraries, described as the first large-scale effort to apply AI-driven formal verification to production software at that level. Claude proved programs exit normally without memory-safety errors or failed assertions for inputs under 64 MB, and found bugs that had eluded detection despite trillions of test runs. A subset of proofs is published for verification and reuse.
