F3 Lightning: How Meta Accelerates Ads ML Features to Production at Scale

AnnouncementResearchNov 3, 2026

Meta introduced F3 Lightning, an infrastructure layer that lets machine learning features for ads ranking be compiled, validated, deployed, and rolled back independently, removing the all-or-nothing release problem of the original F3 framework. Comparable extraction features now reach production roughly 3.6x faster than before, with no increase in infrastructure compute cost. Four optimizations—stable computation identifiers, a shared execution plan, a shared memory buffer, and dense index mapping—preserve F3's efficiency gains.
