Disadvantages of Designating Mathematicians for AI Output Releases

AnnouncementPolicyOct 25, 2026

The Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence recommends that AI companies stop designating specific mathematicians to receive AI-generated mathematical output before others. The group cites delayed access, denied community agency, biased selection, and borrowed reputation as outweighing benefits. It says understanding should develop "organic and community led." Labs should instead follow pathways 2A or 2B from its September 29 recommendations, including posting to independent repositories, formalizing proofs in Lean, and funding understanding efforts via independent nonprofits.
