Anthropic says one AI agent beats many subagents now that models can handle complexity alone

AnnouncementProductOct 25, 2026

Anthropic has published a migration kit on GitHub to help teams consolidate multiple specialized sub-agents into a single agent. The company says one agent with on-demand context often outperforms multi-agent setups on quality, cost, and latency, and that newer models including Opus 4.5, Opus 5.5, and Fable 5.1 can manage complex plans in a single loop. Anthropic notes sub-agents still make sense for parallel tasks or when context windows degrade, and warns against merging blindly.
