Amex introduces a framework to prevent AI agents from making unauthorized purchases

AnnouncementProductOct 13, 2026

American Express has introduced the Intent Intelligence Framework, designed to capture and authenticate a customer's purchase intent before an AI agent completes a transaction. The framework, which Amex hopes becomes an industry standard, builds on its April ACE Developer Toolkit launch. VP Hannah Bozian told TechCrunch it pulls intent earlier into the transaction flow to mitigate risk. Amex said it has not yet seen increased disputes from agentic commerce but is acting proactively.
