User:Louis/New Orleans AI 911 call triage

AnnouncementProductAug 9, 2026

During the January 1, 2025 Bourbon Street attack, an AI agent answered the first two 911 calls before routing them to a human, with the incident classified as a hit-and-run crash for roughly 20 seconds, according to OPCD Executive Director Karl Fasold. The Times-Picayune reported that Orleans Parish's automated triage system, active only when all human call takers are busy, engages callers within 200 meters of already-reported crashes. Callers are not explicitly told they are speaking to an AI system.
