SynthID Bio: Watermarking methods for synthetic biology

AnnouncementResearchSep 30, 2026

SynthID Bio embeds verifiable watermarks into AI-generated proteins without disrupting biological function, confirmed in wet-lab testing on three target proteins. Developed for synthetic biology biosecurity, it guides amino acid selection in sequences and adjusts atomic coordinates in structures. Verified using AlphaProteo and a SynthID Bio-enabled version of ProteinMPNN, watermarked binders matched unwatermarked hit rates and binding affinity. For protein folding, it fine-tunes part of AlphaFold's diffusion network, preserving prediction accuracy while enabling near-perfect detectability.
