Open Responses: What you need to know

OpenAI initiated Open Responses, an open inference standard based on the Responses API, backed by Hugging Face. shaun smith, ben burtenshaw, merve, and Pedro Cuenca announced the standard as an alternative to Chat Completion for agentic workflows. Open Responses extends and open-sources the Responses API, enabling providers to expose raw reasoning streams and standardizing routing between inference providers. Clients already supporting the Responses API can migrate with minimal effort.
