Google DeepMind and the Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech) have announced an on-device scam detection model, fine-tuned from Gemma on local scam conversations. Unveiled at Singapore International Cyber Week, the tool analyzes conversations on the device, triggering real-time warnings without cloud scanning, preserving end-to-end encryption privacy. Training used anonymized datasets within GovTech's sovereign sandbox, excluding citizen data. Scams account for over half of Singapore's reported crimes and more than S$4 billion in losses since 2019.
