Safeworld emerged from stealth with a seed round exceeding $12 million, led by Shine Capital and a16z Speedrun, with participation from Box Group, Carnegie Mellon University Endowment, Innovation Endeavors, and SV Angel. Founded by Ding Zhao, who directs the Safe AI lab at Carnegie Mellon University, Kyle Wong, and Simo Rachidi, the company evaluates robotic control systems in simulations populated with realistic human models. Jonathan Lai told TechCrunch the industry safety standard must be built now.
