Buoyant Releases Kinference: An Open Source Inference Control Plane for Kubernetes and vLLM

AnnouncementProductNov 7, 2026

Buoyant, the company behind Linkerd, has released Kinference, an Apache 2.0-licensed open source inference control plane for Kubernetes and vLLM, currently at v0.1.0-alpha.7. Kinference routes requests across vLLM workers using declarative policies, token rate limits, KV-cache-aware load balancing, and per-tenant metrics. In self-reported benchmarks against plain Kubernetes Service routing, median time-to-first-token fell 95% on shared-prefix traffic; gains were absent on prompts without shared prefixes. Anthropic API support is not yet shipped.
