Auto mode is now the default in Claude Code for Pro, Max, and Team plans

AnnouncementProductAug 8, 2026

Anthropic is making auto mode the default setting for new Claude Code sessions on Pro, Max, and Team plans starting August 14th. Cat Wu and Thariq Shihipar stated that Anthropic internally uses auto mode almost universally, with Wu claiming risks like prompt injection are "far lower than the average human reviewer." A study of 1,053 testers showed auto mode would have blocked 89% of dangerous actions that only 13.6% of humans refused. Independent confirmation remains limited.
