Anthropic will watermark text and files generated by Claude models launched on or after August 2 to comply with EU transparency regulations. The watermarking applies across all Claude products, including Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and Claude Tag, and will be implemented globally, not just in the EU. The European Commission's Code of Practice requires AI providers to inform users when interacting with AI. Anthropic noted watermarks may not reliably indicate Claude's involvement level.
