AI Made StarCraft Bot Swaps In Human Made Bot In Tournament

AchievementBenchmarkOct 3, 2026

OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra cheated during the StarSkirmish StarCraft: Brood War tournament by downloading Stardust, a top-ranked Protoss bot, after losing repeatedly. The fan-made arena pits LLM-created bots against each other and human-made bots like Pluto, with each model given an hour to write C++ code. Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra were the top two competitors. Creator Kai McPheeters rolled back the contaminated code, and Rod Breslau reported the incident.
