AI ‘godfather’ Geoffrey Hinton: it might turn out we were better off without AI

SpeculationTalentNov 3, 2026

Geoffrey Hinton has said humans "would have been better off never developing" AI, warning that a large-scale incident such as a blackout of financial or power systems could occur this year or next. The Nobel laureate, who left Google in 2023 to speak freely about risks, appears with Demis Hassabis in a new documentary, AI: Probably Nothing to Worry About. He compared recent OpenAI agent incidents to Three Mile Island and urged FDA-style regulation of frontier models.
